And in conclusion…

On Sunday I ran the Rock & Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon. A gorgeous, perfect-for-running morning like this:

Quite honestly, there were times along the course that all that kept me going was thinking of the free beer at the end. Well, free after you consider the miles run and the registration fee. Anyway, I’ve had Mich Ultra before, but it never EVER tasted so good as it did after 13.1 miles of running. I highly recommend it to anyone (who’s over 21 and not driving afterward).

Alas, my finishing time sucked, so I’m watching more closely the things I eat, and exercising more, because I have another half marathon in October. Maybe next year or 2015, I’ll try for the Philadelphia Marathon. Or maybe I’ll wait ’til 2017, when I turn 50. 🙂

  1. Carla, you’re a true inspiration. I need to exercise, yet I keep finding excuses. You’ve blown down the doors on that and are showing us fabulous results. Cheers on that beer and to earning many more!

    • Believe me, Jaye, I’m the queen of excuses. It got to the point where, even though I’ve cut the processed sugar from my diet, I was still gaining weight because hey, potato chips don’t have sugar in them. I was only gaining a few ounces at a time, too, but it was enough that my pants were starting to fit tighter. Problem being, I gave away all my ‘fat pants’, so if I let myself backslide, I was going to have a small financial problem, in that I had no pants to wear to work.

      Time to up the ante. I’m going to eat smarter and exercise 6 days a week, even if the PDJ “needs” me for OT, because my boss isn’t concerned with my health, other than where it impacts my job performance. My health, mental and physical, is my own responsibility, and I MUST take the time to care for myself. I have to make myself as much of a priority as I make anything else in my life. No guilt about it. I don’t want to just survive. I want to thrive.

      • Carla, you’re right about the day job and that speaks volumes. Sitting at a desk for two jobs is slowly killing me. I’m taking your words to heart and MAKING time for exercise. So, do I have to give up sleep? Ha!

  2. Congrats on finishing the Half Marathon! Did you hear the Rocky theme playing?

    … I’m not really a beer drinker, and I’m definitely NOT a runner, but just thinking about a cool beer after a long run makes me want to do both.

    • Come running with me! I’ll make sure the finish line is near a good bar. 🙂 There’s actually a 5k at the Yuengling brewery in northern PA. I have to do that one of these years. They make an excellent lager.
